That question sat with me for years—through jet lag, Japanese bathhouses,
tiny countryside train stations, and conversations I half-understood.
It eventually became the heartbeat of my debut novel,
The Naked Gaijin.
 
This story was born in the quiet corners of rural Japan, where I witnessed the subtle strength of women holding communities together.
 
It’s about Angel—a woman who leaves behind everything familiar
and ends up discovering who she really is in a place she never expected to call home.
She meets Aki, a formidable village matriarch hiding a painful secret. Through whispered confessions, clashing cultures, and unlikely friendships,
Angel begins to see herself with new eyes.
 
Writing The Naked Gaijin was like holding up a mirror—not just to a foreign land,
but to the parts of ourselves we sometimes lose in translation.
